The Warrior Experience (20-22)

Articles, Warrior Experience

Perhaps it’s just me, but I always seem to get lost for a good hour on where the hell I should go on my Alliance toons. After much diliberation, I headed to Menethil Harbor and entered the raptor playground. To add to my dismay, I forgot that I bought the riding skill and mount. So what did I do? I walked all the way from Loch to the Inn within Menethil Harbor. After setting my hearthstone, I saw the little mechno icon on my right and literally felt like logging out due to my extreme unconscious moment.  Besides that, lets get back into Warrior goodness.

I had a lot of confusion before I hit 20. I wanted to charge into mobs while I was questing or running instances but was tired of losing all of the rage which was a great benefit of it. At 20, I saw my saving grace! Stance Mastery. Since Charge gives me 9 rage, I can finally “Stance Dance”, or at least that is what I think I’m doing. I may be vain, but I feel the one thing that makes me love my Warrior is charging. I charge into a pit of mobs, down a hill, through a grocery store and around a bend. I’m a huge fan of Charge. Cleave was another move I was super excited about. Saurfang used to Cleave Alliance members across the continent, so I was glad to have my very own. It was easy to work into the rotation while tanking.

Retaliation is honestly the one Warrior ability I remember from my early beginnings in WoW and leveling a Warrior (If you haven’t read the previous posts, I quit WoW during Vanilla because leveling a Warrior ruined my experience). Once I realized it stayed with me when I changed back to Defensive Stance, I knew it was all kinds of win. Here is the Macro I’m using.

# show Retaliation
/cast [stance:1] Retaliation; Battle Stance
/cast Defensive Stance

Now that everything was all settled, I was ready to jump back into the leveling fray. I must admit at first I was pretty arrogant about my new abilities and the fact I could charge into mobs and then start slamming cleave.  I soon found out there was a limit to the amount of mobs I could “tank”. Before I say the amount, lets just say 4 is the limit I found I could do. What was the amount I thought I could do? 7 mobs. I don’t know what I was thinking and I was soon gobbled up by raptors and a singular ooze who happened to jump into the faceroll I was receiving.  While it may seem stupid that I preceived I could do that many, pushing limits and seeing your capibilities was something I constantly need to assert with my Warrior. Each ability I get seems to only make everything easier, more streamlined if you will, so seeing my gnome lie dead on the grassy swamp, was an eye opener.

After about 3 quests, and countless dead mobs, I stumbled across level 22. (Heirlooms and Terrible Drop Rates FTW) Each 2 levels feels like Christmas to me. Walking through Ironforge and waiting to see what goodies I will get this time. I wasn’t disappointed as I got Intimidating Shout. I was waiting for this, and since it would be a great saving grace for the moments I do over pull.  Funny story, I ran Stockades and for whatever reason I set the same binding Sunder was to Intimidating. We wiped and I felt like an idiot. I went down like a champ though!

Quick Macro I wiped up.

/cast Intimidating Shout
/stopattack
/use Heavy Wool Bandage

The idea is I’m giving myself time to get a few ticks off of bandaging. It works great for pvp from the few games I did of WSG. Also, I’d like to thank all the hunters out there who got me to follow them around the whole damn map with concussive shot slowing me and then proceeding to kill me after they realize I can’t do much of anything to stop this from happening.

I’m actually disappointed I won’t get much of a chance to play the Warrior tomorrow but I do hope that my journey continues to bring me joy.

P.S. STOP KITING ME.

Glad you’re having fun! I can’t wait till I get to 50 (5 levels away) and I can actually charge in defensive stance! woot!

Encourages me to dust of my warrior, a cute gnome girlie named Cuppcake. I deleted the last failed attempt as tanking was not fun!

    Good read!

@strumpet101 What I’m looking forward to as well :)

@ziboo My first toon was Warrior was during Vanilla. I deleted him and quit the game after. Things have changed so much for the better. I’m 24 and tanking only seems to be improving as I continue!

Actually, the 20s are a tough decade for me as well. It seems like no matter where you go, there are only about two yellow quests for you to do and the rest are either a little too tough to attempt safely/surely or you aren’t high enough level to pick up the quests that you know ought to be there.

I spent a long time at 20 going here and there trying to find a good place to get a level or two so I could fully “settle in” and start questing in one particular area.

Also since exp and heirlooms are literally breezing me through areas, I either have to decide on a red or a green leveling zone. I’m in Wetlands and doing a lot of extra pulls to push me way over the relative zones where I’m getting mucky about what to do. Outlands can’t come soon enough.
