Patch 3.1 will represent one of the most significant content patches toWorld of Warcraft to date. Major modifications to class specializations via the new dual spec feature will bring about significant game play changes for many classes, while the introduction of the Ulduar raid will open up a new and more difficult tier of raiding.
Every World of Warcraft player is eagerly awaiting the new patch to hit and we should expect it in the upcoming weeks. One thing that may surprise you, is that it may be the perfect time for you to add moderation to your gameplay. As a former player, I found that I would stand idle in Orgammar for hours or even just organize my bag slots but not actually doing anything. It’s amazing at times to think of the time we spend on a game while not actually doing anything. With the patch about to hit, here are a few things you can do to keep yourself active in game and also active outside the game.
1. Set Goals and Limits
Before you type in your login and decide which toon to play, know exactly why you’re signing on. Are you going to run a few instances? Maybe just check Auctions? Just like in our normal day, it is imporant to plan. If you know you have issues with playing for long stretches, then it is perfect for you to sign on, accomplish your goals and then logout. Don’t set burdening goals of doing too much at anytime. While the game offers many, many, many things to do, you truly appreciate it more when you take it in small chunks.
2. Ulduar
You’re thinking, wait.. Why would a brand new raid help me limit my gameplay? Well for most guilds, there are set dates and times when you raid. The guild I was in always raided Wednesdays and Thursdays 7-10. Most nights we didn’t need the time we had given ourselves. While most people would disagree with this statement, joining a raiding a guild isn’t the worst idea if you’re looking to limit your play. Most individuals in serious raiding guilds each have outside affairs and don’t play much more than the times alloted for raiding.
3. Lag
Me telling you that lag is a good reason to slow down your play may not sit right with some, especially those who want to jump right into the new patch but the reality is the servers will experience it. Servers will have queue times and most nights, they will go down. This is going to be Blizzard’s biggest patch to date, so anything you’ve experienced in the past is only going to be worst this time around. I know Blizzard has made leaps and bounds in approvement and implimation of content but there is no way to prepare for quite the amount of players, content and up-time for it all colliding at once. Take this time to enjoy things outside the game, knowing that that the content will be steady when you do finally login.
